I work for a hotel, as I have mentioned in previous posts. One of my biggest frustrations, is with the way they do updates. The “main” updates are usually designed to add some functionality to the property management system that we use. However, it seems almost every time that they have to roll out a new update to fix something that they broke with the “main” update

Today was one prime example of this. There was an update where the system was down for a couple hours. I was excited to see what was added. However, when the system came back up, I discovered that I could not do a certain task that is very critical to one of my duties. I don’t know what else (if anything) is broken at this time. I just know that the one thing that I need, does not work. I hope that they get it fixed by the end of the month, so that I can be able to finish my job.

I haven’t posted anything really in quite some time. I am sitting here at work, trying not to be bored. I work at a hotel, and my boss recently went to a regional meeting for Choice Hotels. He came back, and asked me if I knew about Facebook and / or Twitter. I knew about Facebook, but Twitter I didn’t know anything other than it’s name.

He said that during this meeting, they (Choice Hotels) talked about using the Social Networking sites to promote the hotel. Now, this got me excited. My boss then gave me a .pdf file that talks all about some of the social networking sites to use. These included YouTube, Flickr, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, and Yelp. I started playing with Twitter a little bit more, and have since started tweeting. I am now on Twitter @antwanchild. Reading through this document has really helped me to have a better understanding of what Twitter and Facebook are all about.

I have not posted for quite some time, and I don’t really have a good reason.

However, here I go with a new post. I have been debating over the last couple of days and even weeks about whether to get a new Netbook computer. For those of you who don’t know what a Netbook is, I found a definition on Wikipedia.

“A netbook (a combination of the words Internet and notebook) is a class of laptop computer designed for wireless communication and access to the Internet.

Primarily designed for web browsing and e-mailing, netbooks rely heavily on the Internet for remote access to web-based applications” and are targeted increasingly at cloud computing users who require a less powerful client computer. Netbooks typically run either Linux or Windows XP operating systems rather than more resource-intensive operating systems like Windows Vista. The devices range in size from below 5 inches to over 13, typically weigh 2 to 3 pounds (~1 kg) and are often significantly cheaper than general purpose laptops.”

Anyway, I have been doing some research, and I really want to get a netbook. I have been debating back and forth between a couple of different models. The two final choices are either the Acer Aspire One, or the MSI Wind. I am having the hardest time trying to make up my mind. If anyone has any suggestions, then please leave a comment and let me know.

One of the things that I hate really bad is procrastination. Why do people find it convenient to wait until the last minute to take care of things. Well, most of the time, companies do not wait until the last day to send out W2s. This was the case with my employer. I personally sent out W2s over a week ago. But why do people wait until yesterday (Jan 30th), which also happens to be the last day they are sent out, to make sure that we have their correct address? If these former employees know they are at a different address, then why don’t they take the time to update them before they are sent out.

Or they report on things that don’t really sound like news to me.
For Example, there was a story today about how Micron can save $17 thousand dollars by not buying facial tissue. I don’t really consider this news. Some might, but I just don’t.

First, is that I seem to get a lot of my ideas from Mike Cox. I don’t do it to try and copy him, I just do it, because I think that he has some wonderful ideas. I love the themes that he happens to use. The reason why I suck as a blogger, is that I seem to lack some kind of creativity. I just hope that in the process of using his ideas, that I didn’t make him mad. But I do hope and wish that I can gain some kind of creativity someday.

Thanks Again Mike for being so Awesome!!!

About 6 months ago, I wrote a post about my frustration with Kyle Busch. That race was at Richmond, and Kyle Busch wrecked Dale Jr, with just a few laps to go and took the win away from Jr. Well, there was another race a week ago on the September 7th. This same race also happened to be at Richmond. However, this time the tables were turned. This time Kyle Busch was leading, and Jr got up behind him.

Was it a payback? No one really knows at this time. Lets think about a couple things: 1) Back in May, Jr was going for a win and Kyle wrecked him and took the win right away from him, 2) This time Kyle Busch was going for a win, and Jr got up under him and spun him out. Both of these events happened at the very same track, just about 4 months apart. Personally, I think it was a payback. Excuse my wording, but sometimes paybacks are a bitch.

On Saturday, BYU played Washington. The game went pretty well, the scoring went back and forth. The game stayed tied or withing a touchdown for most of the game. I do have one gripe about the game, and that is the last about 30 seconds of the game.

There was about 30 seconds left in the game, and Washington was down by one touchdown. They got down close enough and scored a touchdown, and were now within one point of tying the game. They were excited, and I think that they had reason to be. Then there was a flag on the field. The penalty ended up being for celebration. That particular penalty is one of those that always makes me mad. It is not that I think that it should not exist, because I do think it should exist. The wording just needs to be changed. There are times if a celebration is flagerant and blatant that it needs to be called. But a situation like Jake Locker getting excited because he scored a touchdown to try and tie the game, should not be called.

RULE 9
Conduct of Players and Others Subject to the Rules

SECTION 2. Noncontact Fouls

Unsportsmanlike Acts
ARTICLE 1. There shall be no unsportsmanlike conduct or any act
that interferes with orderly game administration on the part of players,
substitutes, coaches, authorized attendants or any other persons subject to
the rules, before the game, during the game or between periods.

a. Specifically prohibited acts and conduct include:

2. After a score or any other play, the player in possession immediately
must return the ball to an official or leave it near the dead-ball spot.
This prohibits:

(a) Kicking, throwing, spinning or carrying (including off of the
field) the ball any distance that requires an official to retrieve it.

(b) Spiking the ball to the ground [Exception: A forward pass to
conserve time (Rule 7-3-2-d)].

(c) Throwing the ball high into the air.

(d) Any other unsportsmanlike act or actions that delay the game.

[emphasis added]

But it is one of those things that is up to interpretation. The wording on the penalty or rulebook, whatever you want to call it, needs to be changed. One referee might see a little celebration and not call anything; while a different referee might see the same celebration, but decide to call a penalty.

After the game, referee Larry Farina was quoted as saying “After scoring the touchdown, the player threw the ball into the air and we are required, by rule, to assess a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. It is a celebration rule that we are required to call. It was not a judgment call.”

What? If it’s not a judgment call, why did the rule makers insert the word “high?” The officials are being asked to make a judgment by inserting that one four-letter word. Is it high if a player throws the ball 30 feet in the air? Sure. Is it high if he tosses it over his shoulder? No. How about 6 inches over his head? A foot? A yard? See, there has to be a judgment made at some point. If any act of throwing the ball in the air were to be penalized, the word “high” would have been omitted.

Here is a clip of the play:

Previously, I have posted a post about Quickbooks vs Microsoft Money. However, as Mike mentioned in comments on this same post that when I said I would post that day, apparently that didn’t mean that day. Well, I don’t really remember what I was going to post about. So, I will just write a new post that is somewhat related. I do not have my own business, or have any plan to start a business anytime soon. But I just started a job as a bookkeeper where I use Quickbooks on a daily basis. In the past, I had used Microsoft Money to keep track of my personal finances. However, I was debating about whether I should continue to use MS Money, or if I should use Quickbooks. I had heard that usually people use Quicken for personal finances, but some people use Quickbooks. So, I decided to give in and I purchased myself a copy of Quickbooks Pro, so that I would have some of the features that I use at work.

I have not actually taken the time to get all my accounts and bills and things set up, but I will get to that one of these days. I just need to pick a time to get it all started, and haven’t quite figured out how to do that. If anyone has any suggestions just let me know.
