I am a pretty big nascar fan. I am not a “fan” of Carl Edwards. However, I do enjoy watching him. Sunday’s race at Atlanta Motor Speedway was an exception. I didn’t watch the race, but I watched some clips afterwards. There was one incident where I think Carl Edwards needs to be fined, or suspended or even both for what he did.

Take a Look here:

If I was a betting man, which I am not, I would bet that this was a severe case of retaliation. There was an incident earlier in the race, where Brad Keslowski bumped Carl Edwards. You can also view that here:

You are free to voice your opinion, but this looks like a blantant form of retaliation.

As I have stated many other times, I am a big Boise State Football fan. I have been a Boise State Fan, even back when we sucked. This year, I am a little bit upset. I don’t know whether to be mad, or whether I should be happy.

Normally, if a College Football Team is ranked in the top 12, then they get an automatic bid in a BCS (Bowl Championship Series) Game. However, this year there are two teams ranked in the top 12, Utah #6, and BSU #9. So, since Utah is #6 they get the bid. Now, I think this could be a good or bad thing. I would rather have BSU play in a major bowl, because that would mean more money for the school and conference. Now there is a chance of “being stuck” in the hometown bowl. This is where my mixed emotions come in. I don’t know whether to be happy or sad. If they stay at home and play in the Roady’s Humanitarian Bowl, then there is a chance for them to play #12 Ball State. This would be a good game for two reasons, 1) It would be a battle of two undefeated teams, and 2) The two teams would be pretty evenly matched. The other option for BSU is to play #11 TCU in the Poinsetta Bowl in San Diego. This would be a little bit of a better match-up, and may bring a higher dollar game for BSU.

I am going to voice my opion about something. Why does President-Elect Barack Obama have to stick his damn nose into everything. I don’t remember where I was reading this, but I read somewhere that Obama wants to implement a College Football playoff system. Everyone else wants to do this as well, but that is not my point. My point is that there are so many other political things to worry about other than College Football. Like the big one is the current economic situation.

About 6 months ago, I wrote a post about my frustration with Kyle Busch. That race was at Richmond, and Kyle Busch wrecked Dale Jr, with just a few laps to go and took the win away from Jr. Well, there was another race a week ago on the September 7th. This same race also happened to be at Richmond. However, this time the tables were turned. This time Kyle Busch was leading, and Jr got up behind him.

Was it a payback? No one really knows at this time. Lets think about a couple things: 1) Back in May, Jr was going for a win and Kyle wrecked him and took the win right away from him, 2) This time Kyle Busch was going for a win, and Jr got up under him and spun him out. Both of these events happened at the very same track, just about 4 months apart. Personally, I think it was a payback. Excuse my wording, but sometimes paybacks are a bitch.

On Saturday, BYU played Washington. The game went pretty well, the scoring went back and forth. The game stayed tied or withing a touchdown for most of the game. I do have one gripe about the game, and that is the last about 30 seconds of the game.

There was about 30 seconds left in the game, and Washington was down by one touchdown. They got down close enough and scored a touchdown, and were now within one point of tying the game. They were excited, and I think that they had reason to be. Then there was a flag on the field. The penalty ended up being for celebration. That particular penalty is one of those that always makes me mad. It is not that I think that it should not exist, because I do think it should exist. The wording just needs to be changed. There are times if a celebration is flagerant and blatant that it needs to be called. But a situation like Jake Locker getting excited because he scored a touchdown to try and tie the game, should not be called.

RULE 9
Conduct of Players and Others Subject to the Rules

SECTION 2. Noncontact Fouls

Unsportsmanlike Acts
ARTICLE 1. There shall be no unsportsmanlike conduct or any act
that interferes with orderly game administration on the part of players,
substitutes, coaches, authorized attendants or any other persons subject to
the rules, before the game, during the game or between periods.

a. Specifically prohibited acts and conduct include:

2. After a score or any other play, the player in possession immediately
must return the ball to an official or leave it near the dead-ball spot.
This prohibits:

(a) Kicking, throwing, spinning or carrying (including off of the
field) the ball any distance that requires an official to retrieve it.

(b) Spiking the ball to the ground [Exception: A forward pass to
conserve time (Rule 7-3-2-d)].

(c) Throwing the ball high into the air.

(d) Any other unsportsmanlike act or actions that delay the game.

[emphasis added]

But it is one of those things that is up to interpretation. The wording on the penalty or rulebook, whatever you want to call it, needs to be changed. One referee might see a little celebration and not call anything; while a different referee might see the same celebration, but decide to call a penalty.

After the game, referee Larry Farina was quoted as saying “After scoring the touchdown, the player threw the ball into the air and we are required, by rule, to assess a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. It is a celebration rule that we are required to call. It was not a judgment call.”

What? If it’s not a judgment call, why did the rule makers insert the word “high?” The officials are being asked to make a judgment by inserting that one four-letter word. Is it high if a player throws the ball 30 feet in the air? Sure. Is it high if he tosses it over his shoulder? No. How about 6 inches over his head? A foot? A yard? See, there has to be a judgment made at some point. If any act of throwing the ball in the air were to be penalized, the word “high” would have been omitted.

Here is a clip of the play:

In Texas last year, a car spun in front of Dale Earnhardt Jr., and Jr. lifted to slow down as he drove into the smoke. No one could see for a few seconds, and Dale Jr. wisely slowed down to miss the accident. Kyle did the opposite, by driving blindly into the smoke with the accelerator pegged to the firewall. Naturally Kyle hit Dale Jr. a ton, wrecking both cars pretty badly. Back in the garage, cameras showed Kyle climbing from his car, roughly shoving past his crew members and storming away. As it turned out, Kyle left the track.

Near the end of the race, the 5 team of Kyle Busch got the car drivable again, but just barely. They went looking for their driver, but he was on his way home. Dale Jr., the driver Kyle had just taken out of the race, climbed into the car and finished the race. In that instance, Dale Earnhardt Jr. showed his class, and Kyle Busch showed his ass.

I think that Kyle Busch still stings from being released from his Hendrick ride last year to make way for Dale Earnhardt Jr. Some of the remarks he’s made since the announcement that Dale Jr. would be joining Hendrick Motorsports in 2008 led me to believe that he still harbors some resentment. Though Kyle has done very well at Joe Gibbs Racing, there appears to still be somewhat of a chip on the young man’s shoulder.

I am a pretty big fan of Nascar, especially when it comes to Dale Earnhardt Jr. Usually races are on Sundays except for this week’s race, which happened to be at Richmond on Saturday. I had totally forgot about the race until around lap 350 out of 400. Jr, was trying to get up to the front. Denny Hamlin was winning, and led the most laps during the race. During lap 379, Denny reported a flat tire, and Kyle Busch & Jr were able to catch up to him. During lap 383, Jr takes the lead. On lap 395, he is five laps away from putting an end to his 71-race winless streak. By this time, I am jumping for joy. Well, my dreams were put to rest at lap 398, when Kyle Busch wrecked Jr and sent him into the wall.
I have never liked either of the Busch Brothers (Kyle or Kurt). After today’s episode caused by Kyle, I am even more frustrated with him and dislike him even more. It will take me quite some time to get over this. This is mainly, because I have been waiting so long to see Jr get a win, and then to have it spoiled by this foolishness. Darrell Waltrip, says that it was not intentional. The more I look at it, the more intentional it looks. Kyle Busch totally screwed up, and I think he needs to be penalized and have his butt kicked.
